Membership Tags cost $15. All
proceeds go towards the Course Improvement Fund. Tags can be
purchased at the course from TOPHER,
MAGIC, PRUE, GOAT or WOODSY. You may not participate in
a tag challenge without a tag. When available, $5 replacement
tags will be made available to replace a lost or stolen tag.
(Proceeds from replacement tags to fund CTP, and end of year
prizes.) The Challenge runs year long from January 2nd to Thursday,
December 25th. |
| 2 |
Official Tag challenge matches
are held bi-weekly on Thursdays, -4:15 hours before sunset;
and on Saturdays at 2 P.M. (NOON during Daylight Savings Time).
Check the Nice Up! Schedule for seasonal time changes and/or
the home board at the course where the times are usually posted.
A one half stroke penalty will be assessed to anyone who fails
to sign-in on the entrance sheet with their current tag # at
least 5 minutes prior to these posted start times. No player
will be allowed to join in an official tag round once the "Start
Call" is made. Under no circumstances are latecomers permitted
to join a group of 4 players. Late coming players must either
request that one member of an established foursome voluntarily
leave his group or sit out of the round. No one is permitted
to play an un-witnessed solo tag round. |
| 3 |
A tag round will also be declared
"official" whenever 7 tag-holding players throw in
their tags to play (please note this rule used to require 8
Players.) However, at least seven players must finish the round
for the round to count (the round is otherwise voided by the
DNF.) The tag round may also take place outside of Sedgley Woods
provided 7 tag-holding players start and finish the round. Sedgley
Woods Tournaments automatically count as a tag tournament regardless
of the number of tag holding players. Saturday Tournaments pre-empt
the regular Saturday Tag Challenge. Accordingly, players should
routinely check the board or website
to see when tournaments will be played. |

The #1 tag holder (or the holder of the next higher tag #
should #1 fail to show) calls the tees. The #1 Tag must be
thrown-in at each and every monthly tournament. Tee assignments
are determined by tag numbers such that the better tag holders
usually play from the lower numbered tees.
Latecomers are assigned to wherever they can be squeezed-in
provided they arrive at a tee ready to play before the "start
call." Usually, there are to be 4 players in the leader
group. The 4th player on the card however, is a wildcard player
who, at the discretion of the TD may be bumped to form a new
group of three to ensure better flow on the course. "Leader
Group Passes" must be turned in at the time of initial
sign-up and will also bump the #4 man off the card. A Leader
Group Pass shall be given to the holder of the #1 tag who
turns it in prior to it's expiration date. It shall have the
effect of Gold 1.5 such that if Gold #1 is not present, the
holder calls the tees.
A Leader group pass may also utilized as a CTP prize at the
discretion of the tag czar.

The winner of the round shall be awarded the best tag. All
ties to favor the tag holder who entered the round with the
better ranking (players are thus basically given 1/2 stoke
advantage on all below them. The tag sign-in sheet acts as
the best tool to record scores, dates and tees played. No
score cards need be kept provided the sign-in sheet is saved.
For the round to count, especially end of month rounds, all
tag scores must be called-in to Magic at 215-782-1102, 610-878-9901
x209 or e-mailed to him (sleventhal@regrizlaw.com)
no later than three 3 days into the next month except for
December when the final round must be reported by 12/27/03.
Rounds not promptly reported may be subject to nullification
at the sole discretion of the tag czar.

CTP (Closest to the Pin) prizes
are only eligible to those players who contribute $1 to the
TD prior to the start of the round and check their name off
on the sign-in sheet. Late-arriving players must physically
exchange a dollar with someone else in their group prior to
throwing the first CTP hole to be eligible to win the prize.
If multiple CTPs are offered, the player who wins the CTP on
the lower numbered hole gets first choice of prize selection.
Players are asked to voluntarily participate in the CTP donation
as a means of offsetting end of year prize purchases and to
subsidize year long food & drink purchase for group consumption.
Due to the recent frequency of ACE hits, the guaranteed payment
of an ACE pot has been discontinued. It is recommended, but
certainly not mandatory that any players present on the course
contribute $1 to each and every player who achieves a hole in
one during the round. In the alternative, the club may choose
to award a set bounty for any ace thrown at the board's sole
discretion. See Topher. |

Scoring: Only the first 25
tags are golden in color. Players' scores are determined by
the lowest gold tag number obtained during a given month. (Eg.
If you win Gold #20: 20 points; Gold #1: 1 point.) Each month
starts with a clean slate. Failure to obtain a gold tag in any
month carries a 40 point penalty. At the end of June, and again
in December, your worst score in a given 6-month period is dropped.
Prizes are then awarded to the lowest scoring Pro, Am &
Woman. The Am winner is advanced to Pro for all following years.
Prizes are also awarded to the first player to win all 20 gold
tags in a single season. The top 20 tag players are also certified
as such and receive annual recognition of the achievement. A
Rookie of the Year, a Most Improved Player of the Year, any
player to beat a prior tag tee round record and The Golden Boy
award (for the player to win the most gold tags in the season)
are also selected for group recognition/ridicule. |

In case of an end of year scoring
tie, to determine the winner in any division at the end of the
year there shall be a one round sudden death play-off. Holes
8-13 are to be played three times in a row from each of the
three tee colors. Should this endeavor still end in a tie, a
CTP shot from the putt-off tees to the practice basket shall
end the debate. |
| |
9 |
Courteous behavior is expected.
Players with increased sensitivities are asked to speak-up and
inform others that their behavior is adversely affecting their
game. Players are cautioned not to talk when players are in
the box. No one should walk ahead of the furthest lie or stand
in the vision line of a shooting player. New
Yorking, as always, is strictly forbidden! |

Tag Rounds played before Thursday
Doubles should be mindful that it is unpleasant to finish doubles
in the dark and that we owe our existence as a viable club to
Thursday doubles. Please limit playing interruptions and breaks
and keep play moving and under 2 hours in length. Chronic abusers
of this rule will be DQ'd at the tag czar's discretion after
due warning. |
| |
11 |
Players are encouraged to donate
at least one (1) CTP prize a year with a value of up to $10.
|
| |
12 |
A $20 bounty shall also be
paid to any player who wins Tags, Doubles and the putt-off on
the same day. (The Triple Crown of Sedgley) |
| |
13 |
Check the board or website
monthly for the updated scores and leader board information.
|
| |
14 |
Play continues in all weather
but for lighting. Lightning voids the round. Players get their
starting tag back. All other DNF rounds regardless of cause
(including injury) leaves the player with the largest tag number
out. |
| |
15 |
Magic and/or the acting tournament
director shall be the sole arbitrator of all Tag Round disputes
and DQs. |
| |
16 |
Gold Tag #1, by definition, is the most coveted tag of the
Challenge. Players acquiring it must be mindful of the rule
that Tag #1 may not remain out of play for more than 2 official
tag rounds (a.k.a.: the 10-day rule.) Should #1 fail to show
by then, a duplicate tag #1 shall be placed back in play on
the third official challenge stripping the old owner of its
benefits. This player is assigned the sign-in spot of Gold
#21.
All other gold tags must make at least one appearance in
any given month or shall be thrown-in in the following month.
In the likely event that a duplicated gold tag faces off in
the same round, both players sign in on the same number but
the player to have won the tag in the most recent official
challenge shall get the 1/2 stroke advantage. However, the
duplicate shall be confiscated and replaced by a general membership
colored tag/ or shall be taped over with the value of #201
for distribution at the end of the round.
|
| |
17 |
Tag shopping is prohibited.
A player may not hold a gold, buy a replacement claiming the
gold was lost then play the gold at a future date.
Once a replacement tag is purchased the old tag, if found,
must be returned to Magic. As tag rounds are recorded, violators
will be subject to a 35-point penalty at the sole discretion
of the Tag Czar.
|
| |
18 |
The Challenge is not the best
forum for rule testing/testers. The spirit of the rules in most
instances shall govern. When at all possible, players are encouraged
to act with good will and intentions. The Tag organizers have
gone to great lengths to establish a fair system of play to
rank players and reward great play. The level of improvement
of singles play in the past 9 years is no less than remarkable.
The point system has enabled current golfers to compare themselves
with their younger selves and other past Sedgley legends. |
| |
19 |
Each year in the middle of August, a "Skins" invitational
shall be organized--open first only to players who have won
a gold tag in that year and then to players who have won gold
in past years. The grid of 32 players to this annual fundraiser
shall fill-up upon guaranteed payment of the agreed upon entrance
fee ($10 in 2003). Pools to select the winner of the tournament
shall also be sold for 3 for $5 to non-playing members of
the club wishing to contribute to the charity identified.
All money raised shall be donated in the name of the winner
of the tournament and the winner of the pool. Past winners
include:
1999 Drew & Magic
2000 Dale & Heff
2001 JGB & Pete
2002 Jake & Joe The
2003 David Woods
2004 Tim Gannotta
2005 Nick Scheinder
